FUEL INJECTION (FUEL SYSTEMS)(H4DOTC DIESEL) > Fuel Filter Assembly
• Check the fuel hoses and fuel filter assembly for deformation, cracks and damage.
• Check that there is no fuel leakage from hoses and connecting parts.
1. Set the tester between the fuel heater connector terminals.
2. Connect the Mighty Vac to the discharge side, plug the intake side and measure the resistance when vacuum pressure is applied.
Standard:
|
Vacuum pressure |
Resistance |
|
At 29.3 — 40.0 kPa (220 — 330 mmHg) |
Approx. 0.5 Ω |
Measure the resistance between sedimentor level switch connector terminals.
Standard:
|
Float position |
Resistance |
|
Float upper limit |
Less than 1 Ω |
|
Float lower limit |
1 MΩ or more |
|
(A) |
Float upper limit |
(B) |
Float lower limit |
1. Attach a hose with a φ9 inner diameter.
2. Set the priming pump at a position 1 m (3.3 ft) above the surface of the fuel.
3. Pump the priming pump until the hose and priming pump are completely filled with fuel.
4. Pump the priming pump 10 times and check that the discharge amount is 70 ml (2.4 US fl oz, 2.5 Imp fl oz) or more.
If it is less than 70 ml (2.4 US fl oz, 2.5 Imp fl oz), replace the priming pump.

1. Disconnect the fuel hoses.
2. Pump the priming pump 10 times and check that the discharge amount is 70 ml (2.4 US fl oz, 2.5 Imp fl oz) or more.
If it is less than 70 ml (2.4 US fl oz, 2.5 Imp fl oz) and checking the priming pump unit shows no malfunction, replace the fuel filter.
If the sedimentor warning light illuminates, perform the following procedures to drain water.
1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
2. Disconnect the fuel hoses from the clamps.
3. Disconnect the harness connector of the fuel filter assembly.
4. Remove the mounting nuts of the fuel filter assembly.
5. Lift up the fuel filter assembly.
6. Connect a hose to the drain plug, and loosen the drain plug.
7. Pump the priming pump on top of the fuel filter assembly to drain fuel and water.
CAUTION:
• Be careful not to spill fuel.
• Drain fuel and discharged water into a suitable container.
• Do not tilt the fuel filter assembly, while performing the water draining procedure.
8. Disconnect the hose from the drain plug, and tighten the drain plug.
9. Install the fuel filter assembly.
Tightening torque:
18 N·m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.3 ft-lb)
10. Connect the harness connector of the fuel filter assembly.
11. Attach the clamps to the fuel hoses.
12. Pump the priming pump on top of the fuel filter assembly to fill the fuel system with fuel.
NOTE:
Pump the priming pump until it is stiff.
13. Connect the ground cable to battery.
14. Make sure that the sedimentor warning light has gone out.
