1. Check the gear teeth surfaces of the fuel pump gear and sub gear for damage or excessive wear. If there are any faults, check the reduction sprocket and gear, and the crank gear.

2. Under engine load, check the sub gear for looseness.

3. Make sure there is no free play between the fuel pump gear and key.

4. Inspect the clearance of the snap ring and washer, and adjust if necessary.
