MECHANICAL(H4DOTC DIESEL) > Camshaft

INSTALLATION

1. Install the valve rocker to the cylinder head.

2. Attach the intake and exhaust camshafts to the cylinder head.

3. Apply engine oil to camshaft journals, and install the camshaft.

4. Install the camshaft cap.

(1) Apply liquid gasket sparingly to back side of the front camshaft cap as shown in the figure.

CAUTION:

Do not apply liquid gasket excessively. Applying excessively may cause excess gasket to flow toward cam journal, resulting in engine seizure.

NOTE:

Install within 5 min. after applying liquid gasket.

Liquid gasket:

THREE BOND 1217G (Part No. 0877Y0100) or equivalent

Liquid gasket applying diameter:

2.5±0.5 mm (0.0984±0.0197 in)

(2) Apply engine oil to the cap bearing surface, and install the camshaft cap.

(3) Attach the camshaft cap and front camshaft cap in the order indicated in the figure.

NOTE:

Use new seal washers for bolts (9), (10), (11), and (12) indicated in the figure.

Tightening torque:

9.75 N·m (1.0 kgf-m, 7.2 ft-lb)

5. Perform a valve clearance inspection.

6. Attach the fuel delivery pipe and fuel return pipe.

7. Install the rocker cover.

8. Install the cam sprocket.

NOTE:

Step 8 is only performed when the cam sprocket is removed.

9. Install the timing chain assembly.

10. Install the chain cover.

11. Attach the oil level gauge and oil level gauge guide to the chain cover.

12. Install the camshaft position sensor.

13. Install the vacuum pump.

14. Install the scavenger pump.

15. Install the crank pulley.

16. Install the V-belt tensioner.

17. Install the V-belts.

18. Install the engine to the vehicle.
