ADJUSTMENT

NOTE:

Perform valve clearance adjustment with the engine removed from the vehicle.

Perform valve clearance adjustment when the engine is cold.

1. Remove the engine from vehicle.

2. Remove the rocker cover.

3. Turn the crank pulley clockwise, and align the cam lobe of the cylinder to be measured with the base circle position.

4. Adjust the valve clearance.

(1) Using the ST, loosen the valve rocker nut and adjusting screw.

(2) Turn the adjusting screw, and adjust valve clearance using a thickness gauge.

Valve clearance

Intake:

0.13 — 0.20 mm (0.0051 — 0.0079 in)

Exhaust:

0.18 — 0.25 mm (0.0071 — 0.0098 in)

(3) When the specified valve clearance is obtained, tighten the valve rocker nut.

Tightening torque:

10 N·m (1.0 kgf-m, 7.4 ft-lb)

NOTE:

When tightening the valve rocker nut, hold the adjusting screw in place.

The illustration shows the #1 intake and #3 exhaust.

5. Using the same procedures, adjust the valve clearances of other cylinders.

6. Confirm that the valve clearances of all cylinders are within specifications.

7. Install the rocker cover.

8. Install the engine to the vehicle.
