ENGINE (DIAGNOSTICS)(H4DOTC DIESEL) > Drive Cycle
For the troubleshooting, there are driving patterns described below. Driving in the specified pattern allows to diagnose malfunctioning items listed below. After the repair of the following trouble items, be sure to drive the vehicle with the specified drive patterns to check whether the function is resumed correctly.
1. PREPARATION FOR DRIVE CYCLE
1. Check that the battery voltage is 12 V or more and fuel remains approx. half [20 — 40 L (5.3 — 10.6 US gal, 4.4 — 8.8 Imp gal)].
2. Make sure that no DTC remains after clearing memory.
NOTE:
Perform the diagnosis twice if the DTC marked with *. After completing the first diagnosis, stop the engine and perform second diagnosis in same condition.

Engine coolant temperature: 75°C (167°F) or higher |
WARNING:
When performing the drive cycle A on the public road, be very careful of the traffic condition and the safe driving must be the high priority.
1. Check the data in condition column of table by using the Subaru Select Monitor or general scan tool.
NOTE:
2. Start the vehicle with the condition in the table met, then accelerate the vehicle to 60 km/h (37 MPH) in the third gear.
3. When the speed reaches to 60 km/h (37 MPH), release accelerator pedal to decrease the speed to 43 km/h (27 MPH) with the gear remained in third. Do not operate the accelerator pedal, brake pedal and clutch pedal at this time.
4. When the speed reaches to 43 km/h (27 MPH), depress accelerator pedal to increase the speed to 60 km/h (37 MPH) with the gear remained in third.
5. When the speed reaches to 60 km/h (37 MPH), release accelerator pedal to decrease the speed to 43 km/h (27 MPH) with the gear remained in third. Do not operate the accelerator pedal, brake pedal and clutch pedal at this time.
6. When the speed reaches to 43 km/h (27 MPH), bring the vehicle to a stop at safe place, then idle.
NOTE:
Driving method while vehicle is driven to a stop at safe place is not restricted.
7. With the vehicle idling, read the temporary diagnostic code of DTC using Subaru Select Monitor or general scan tool.

• Engine coolant temperature: 75°C (167°F) or higher • Atmospheric Pressure: 96 kPa (720 mmHg, 28 inHg, 14 psi) or more • Intake air temperature (air flow sensor): 10°C (50°F) or higher • Idling condition: 10 seconds or more • Intake manifold absolute pressure (at idle): 75 kPa (563 mmHg, 22 inHg, 11 psi) or more, and less than 120 kPa (900 mmHg, 35 inHg, 17 psi) |
1. Check the data in condition column of table by using the Subaru Select Monitor or general scan tool.
NOTE:
2. Depress the accelerator pedal with the condition in the table met, and hold it for one second before releasing rapidly.
NOTE:
In the Steps 2), if the intake manifold absolute pressure changes 3.3 kPa (25 mmHg, 1 inHg, 0.5 psi) or more, the trouble is resolved.

1. Lift up the vehicle using a garage jack and place it on rigid racks, or drive the vehicle onto free rollers.
WARNING:
• Before lifting up the vehicle, ensure parking brake is applied.
• Do not use a pantograph jack in place of a rigid rack.
• Secure a rope or wire to the front or rear towing hooks to prevent the lateral runout of front wheels.
• Before rotating the wheels, make sure that there is no one in front of the vehicle. Besides while the wheels are rotating, make sure that no one approaches the vehicle front side.
• Make sure that there is nothing around the wheels. For AWD model, pay special attention to all four wheels.
• While servicing, do not depress or release the clutch pedal or accelerator pedal quickly regardless of the engine speed. Quick operation may cause the vehicle to drop off the free roller.
• To prevent the vehicle from slipping due to vibration, do not place anything between rigid rack and the vehicle.

2. Start the engine and warm up engine until coolant temperature is higher than 75°C (167°F).
NOTE:
3. Connect the delivery (test) mode connector (A) located under the glove box.
4. End the «Current Data Display & Save». The screen will return to the «Engine Diagnosis» screen.
5. On «Engine Diagnosis» display, select {Dealer Check Mode Procedure}.
6. When the «Perform Inspection (Dealer Check) Mode?» is shown on the screen, click the [Next] button.
7. Perform the procedures shown on the display screen. If the DTC is not displayed on the display screen, the trouble is resolved.
NOTE:
• For detailed operation procedures, refer to “PC application help for Subaru Select Monitor”.
• Release the parking brake.
• The speed difference between front and rear wheels may illuminate the ABS warning light, but this indicates no malfunctions. When engine control system diagnosis is finished, perform the ABS memory clearance procedure of self-diagnosis function.
