INSPECTION

1. SYMPTOM CHART

No aiming control

1.CHECK INDICATOR OUTPUT.

1) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

Does the warning indicator turn on for three seconds and go off?

Indicator does not go off. ⇒ Indicator does not illuminate. ⇒

2.CHECK OUTPUT VOLTAGE BETWEEN HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELING ECM AND VEHICLE HEIGHT SENSOR.

1) Disconnect the connector of vehicle height sensor. (front, rear)

2) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

3) Measure the voltage between vehicle height sensor and chassis ground.

Connector & terminal

•Front vehicle height sensor:

(B384) No. 3 (+) — Chassis ground (−):

•Rear vehicle height sensor:

(R152) No. 3 (+) — Chassis ground (−):

Is the voltage 5 V±0.25 V?

3.CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELING ECM AND VEHICLE HEIGHT SENSOR.

1) Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

2) Disconnect the connector from ECM.

3) Measure the continuity between headlight beam leveling ECM and vehicle height sensor.

•Front vehicle height sensor:

(B383) No. 22 — (B384) No. 1:
(B383) No. 20 — (B384) No. 2:
(B383) No. 13 — (B384) No. 3:

•Rear vehicle height sensor:

(B383) No. 21 — (R152) No. 1:
(B383) No. 19 — (R152) No. 2:
(B383) No. 12 — (R152) No. 3:

Is there continuity?

Replace the headlight beam leveling ECM.

Repair the open circuit or poor contact of the connector in harness between headlight beam leveling ECM and vehicle height sensor.

4.CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN BATTERY — INDICATOR BULB — ECM.

1) Disconnect the connector of ECM.

2) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

3) Measure the voltage between indicator bulb and chassis ground.

Connector & terminal

(B383) No. 6 (+) — Chassis ground (−):

Is battery voltage detected?

Replace the headlight beam leveling ECM.

5.CHECK INDICATOR BULB.

Check for open circuit and poor contact in the indicator bulb.

Is there open circuit or poor contact?

Replace the indicator bulb.

6.CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELING ECM AND INDICATOR BULB.

1) Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

2) Disconnect the connector of ECM.

3) Disconnect the combination meter connector.

4) Measure the continuity between headlight beam leveling ECM and combination meter.

(B383) No. 6 — (i10) No. 13:

Is there continuity?

Replace the headlight beam leveling ECM.

Repair the open circuit or poor contact of the connector in harness between headlight beam leveling ECM and indicator.

7.CHECK OUTPUT SIGNAL OF VEHICLE HEIGHT SENSOR.

1) Connect three dry batteries (1.5 V) in series.

2) Connect the battery (+) to the sensor body No. 3 terminal, battery (−) to No. 1 terminal, and then apply voltage of 4.5 V between terminals No. 3 — No. 1.

3) With voltage applied, measure the voltage between terminals No. 2 — No. 1 using a tester while slowly moving the link of sensor body up and down.

Connector & terminal

Sensor body No. 2 — No. 1:

Is the voltage 0.5 — 4.1 V?

Replace the vehicle height sensor.

8.CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELING ECM AND VEHICLE HEIGHT SENSOR.

1) Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

2) Disconnect the connector from ECM.

3) Measure the continuity between headlight beam leveling ECM and vehicle height sensor.

•Front vehicle height sensor:

(B383) No. 22 — (B384) No. 1:
(B383) No. 20 — (B384) No. 2:
(B383) No. 13 — (B384) No. 3:

•Rear vehicle height sensor:

(B383) No. 21 — (R152) No. 1:
(B383) No. 19 — (R152) No. 2:
(B383) No. 12 — (R152) No. 3:

Is there continuity?

Replace the headlight beam leveling ECM.

Repair the open circuit or poor contact of the connector in harness between headlight beam leveling ECM and vehicle height sensor.

9.CHECK IGNITION POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT.

1) Disconnect the headlight beam leveling ECM connector.

2) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

3) Measure the voltage between headlight beam leveling ECM and chassis ground.

Connector & terminal

(B383) No. 1 (+) — Chassis ground (−):

Is the voltage 10 V or more?

Repair the open circuit harness between battery and headlight beam leveling ECM, and poor contact in connector.

10.CHECK HEADLIGHT ON SIGNAL.

1) Disconnect the headlight beam leveling ECM connector.

2) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

3) Turn the headlight switch to ON.

4) Measure the voltage between headlight relay and chassis ground.

Connector & terminal

(B383) No. 3 (+) — Chassis ground (−):

Is signal detected?

Repair the open circuit harness between headlight relay and headlight beam leveling ECM, and poor contact in connector.

11.CHECK HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (LEVELING ACTUATOR) DRIVE.

1) Make the vehicle at stationary condition.

2) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and within 10 seconds, repeat OFF ⇒ ON of headlight switch 5 times.

3) Make sure that the headlight aiming is lowered, and then returns to the original position.

4) Hold the ignition ON condition for 30 seconds or more, and then Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

Does the headlight aiming lower once, and then return to the original position?

Replace the headlight beam leveling ECM.

12.CHECK OUTPUT VOLTAGE BETWEEN HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELING ECM AND HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (LEVELING ACTUATOR).

1) Disconnect the headlight assembly (leveling actuator) connector.

2) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

3) Measure the voltage between leveling actuator and chassis ground.

•Headlight beam leveler RH:

(B383) No. 10 (+) — Chassis ground (−):

•Headlight beam leveler LH:

(B383) No. 11 (+) — Chassis ground (−):

Is the voltage 12 V?

Replace the head light assembly.

13.CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELING ECM AND HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (LEVELING ACTUATOR).

Measure the continuity between headlight beam leveling ECM and headlight assembly (leveling actuator).

Is there continuity?

Replace the headlight beam leveling ECM.

Repair the open circuit harness between headlight assembly and headlight beam leveling ECM, and poor contact in connector.
